EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

 

 

THE  S.T.E.A.M. ROOM NATURE-BASED SCHOOL

Currently in need of a building and funding. An independent learning community where Nature is the primary teacher.  Using the ever-expanding and evolving "Enchanted Days" curriculum, children from ages 4-7 create, design and build their own classrooms, schedules, disciplinary strategies and destinies. They cook, start businesses, put on presentations, shows, plays, etc. Oh, not to mention reading, math, science, history, music and movement, the arts and foreign languages!

Our preschool program is an extension of the traditional Montessori curriculum, employing such other philosophies as Reggio-Emilia, Waldorf, Summerhill and more. Highly aware children will find fullfillment from this curriculum and for all children it will increase their awareness of self, a compassion for others and a reverence for all life.

 

The program runs four mornings a week, Monday - Thursdays, from 9:00 - 1:00 p.m.  It is multi-age, ranging from 2 1/2 - 4 and uses an age-appropriate Enchanted Days curriculum, designed exclusively for our kids! The daily schedule includes fitness classes, a healthy lunch and lots of time in the Zone.  Children must be fully toilet-trained in order to attend. Tuition = $75 week, payable monthly in advance or on Mondays, in advance of that week.

 

Our democratic-style primary program is held Monday-Friday from 8:30 - 3:30 for children ages 4-7 who do not attend traditional school.  Since the mandatory school age in Pennsylvania is from 8-17, children under 8 do not have to be registered with the school district. This is particularly suited to those who favor democratic education, homeschoolers, and those who do not wish to enter their child into the system until it becomes a legal requirement.  The daily schedule includes an offering of cool fitness classes, a healthy lunch and lots of time in the Zone.  Children should be able to work independently as well as cooperatively with others. Tuition = $150/week, payable in advance, and includes most learning materials and craft project items.
